Product Details

These attractive ash cleats are supplied unvarnished and undrilled. Being able to select the best position for your fixings can be a great advantage. Normally cleats are secured by bolting right through the cleat and substrate with suitable machine screws. However for lighter loads you may prefer to hide the fastenings by fixing the cleat in place with a couple of stout wood screws from the rear.

Ash is immensely strong and is able to withstand shock loads. Boat oars and baseball bats are often made of ash because it is both light and strong. As cleats are often positioned on yacht’s coamings and decks they are sometimes trodden on by hefty crew. This is when the strength of ash is most appreciated. However, ash is not a very durable timber if left exposed to the weather so we would recommend that the cleats are varnished once secured in place.
